Birsanagar Gas Explosion Causes Massive Loss
Cylinder blast in Jamshedpur home near police station results in lakhs in damages
A catastrophic gas cylinder explosion at Sandeep Kumar’s residence in Birsanagar, Jamshedpur, has resulted in extensive property damage, with losses estimated between Rs 4 to 5 lakh.
JAMSHEDPUR – The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, near a washing center only 50 meters away from the Birsanagar police station, leading to a fire that destroyed all household belongings.
Sandeep Kumar, the homeowner, had installed a new gas cylinder which caught fire due to leakage and exploded despite his attempts to control the blaze.
The fire brigade responded promptly to the scene, managing to extinguish the fire after a strenuous half-hour effort.
Significant damage was reported, including the destruction of household items such as an AC unit, a TV, and the loss of Rs 20 thousand in cash. The explosion also caused structural damage to the house, including cracks in the walls.
Sandeep Kumar highlighted ongoing issues with gas theft and tampering by the supplying company, including the delivery of cylinders with less gas than owed and damaged seals, contributing to the leakage and subsequent fire.
Despite complaints, no action has been taken against the company for these safety violations, leading to this dangerous and costly incident.
The close proximity of the explosion to the Birsanagar police station underscores the potential risk to public safety posed by such negligent practices.
