Sita Soren’s Defection from JMM Sparks Political Realignment, Jaiprakash Patel Departure Setback for BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained a significant strategic advantage in Jharkhand politics by drawing MLA Sita Soren, elder daughter-in-law of influential leader Shibu Soren, into its fold from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
RANCHI – As political loyalties shift rapidly in the run-up to the general elections, the discord within Shibu Soren’s family has come to the forefront, with Sita Soren’s defection to the BJP two days ago.
Speculations are rife that Sita Soren, who had been dissatisfied with her family for the past four years, may contest the elections from either Dumka or Rajmahal, despite the BJP having already announced candidates for both seats.
"JMM neglected me and deviated from the path of struggle," Sita Soren accused her former party, while reminding people of the struggles of her late husband, Durga Soren.
In response, Kalpana Soren, wife of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has taken to social media to highlight Hemant’s respect for Durga Soren and the latter’s love for Hemant, in an apparent attempt to garner sympathy, as claimed by Sita Soren and her two daughters.
The BJP’s strategic move to break into Shibu Soren’s family is expected to give the party an edge in securing tribal votes, with Sita Soren potentially serving as a star campaigner.
However, the BJP has also faced setbacks, with MLA Jaiprakash Patel joining the Congress and rumors circulating about State Vice President Raj Paliwar’s possible defection, which he has denied.
"Sita Soren’s inclusion in the BJP will greatly benefit the party in attracting tribal voters," stated a senior BJP leader, requesting anonymity.
The political landscape in Jharkhand, which has 14 Lok Sabha seats, has been undergoing significant changes since the 2019 elections, with leaders from various parties switching allegiances based on the prevailing political winds.
As the election season progresses, the shifting loyalties and realignments among political parties and dissatisfied leaders are expected to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls in Jharkhand.
