Opposition Demands CBI Probe into JSSC Exam Paper Leak During Budget Session
The first day of Jharkhand Assembly’s Budget session was marked by opposition protests, demanding a CBI inquiry into the JSSC exam paper leak.
RANCHI – On Friday, the Jharkhand Assembly’s Budget session started with significant anticipation.
Amidst this, Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon presented a substantial supplementary budget. The sum amounted to Rs 4,981 crore for the fiscal year.
However, the session quickly turned tumultuous due to protests from opposition parties.
The core issue sparking the uproar was a demand for a CBI investigation.
This was into a recent examination paper leak scandal. The leak pertained to the JSSC Combined Graduate Level exam paper that occurred on January 28.
The opposition’s protests were not just vocal but also visual. They displayed pamphlets and actively voiced their demands within the assembly.
In an attempt to address the controversy, the state government had previously established a special investigation team (SIT).
This team was tasked with probing into the said leak. Despite this, the call for a CBI probe by opposition members highlighted lingering distrust and demanded greater transparency.
As the session unfolded, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto made efforts to restore order. He aimed to assure that the assembly would address the concerns raised.
However, the session’s initial proceedings were heavily marked by these protests. It eventually led to an adjournment after about 40 minutes.
Looking forward, Speaker Mahto outlined the session’s schedule. It is set to include several sittings until March 2, with the budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year anticipated to be a focal point. Amid the political strife, there was a moment of unity.
The assembly paid homage to late eminent personalities, recognizing their contributions to the nation and the state.
Protest and Demands
Before the session’s commencement, BJP members initiated a protest. They gathered at the assembly entrance, emphasizing their call for a CBI probe into the JSSC exam paper leak. This leak had stirred significant concern among the opposition, leading to vocal protests inside the assembly hall.
Session Proceedings and Responses
Despite the uproar, Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon managed to table the third supplementary budget. The budget, proposing Rs 4,981 crore for the fiscal year, was presented among demands for greater accountability in examination processes. Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto’s attempts to mediate highlighted the assembly’s efforts to balance legislative responsibilities with addressing the protestors’ concerns.
