Jharkhand MLAs in Delhi Amid Political Crisis
In a significant development amidst the ongoing political unrest in Jharkhand, a faction of MLAs has mobilized towards Delhi with grievances against Chief Minister Champai Soren’s cabinet expansion.
RANCHI – The rebellion within the Jharkhand government has intensified, with only 12 days into Champai Soren’s tenure as Chief Minister. Opposition within the ranks is gaining momentum, suggesting a significant unrest that could potentially destabilize the government.
Among the discontented, some MLAs from the Hemant Soren group have also expressed dissatisfaction, although specific names remain undisclosed.
The recent cabinet expansion has particularly fueled the discontent, leading to a call for action against the perceived injustice.
Before their departure for Delhi, the dissenting Congress MLAs had a meeting with Basant Soren, the younger brother of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and a minister in the current government. Despite the meeting lasting approximately thirty minutes, it appears Basant Soren was unable to quell the unrest among the MLAs.
They proceeded directly to the airport, signaling a firm resolve to address their concerns at a higher level.
Congress MLAs Demand Action
The core of the issue lies with the recent cabinet expansion under Chief Minister Champai Soren, which has led to a rift within the government.
A majority of Congress MLAs, 12 out of 16, have voiced their displeasure and are now demanding the ouster of four ministers from the Congress quota in Champai’s cabinet. This has precipitated a crisis, with the aggrieved MLAs seeking intervention from the party’s high command in Delhi.
Basant Soren’s Response to Crisis
In response to the brewing discontent, Minister Basant Soren has attempted to downplay the situation, asserting that there is no resentment among the MLAs. He emphasized that the issues raised were mere doubts and that efforts were being made to resolve them.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Champai Soren, who has also arrived in Delhi, echoed a similar sentiment, assuring that the government faces no imminent danger and expressing confidence in a forthcoming meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge, a senior Congress leader.
Amidst this political turmoil, 8 MLAs have already reached Delhi, with two more expected to join on Sunday. Together, they plan to meet senior Congress leaders to discuss their grievances and seek guidance on the way forward.
Congress MLA Anup Singh highlighted the collective intent to adhere to any instructions received from the party’s high command, indicating a pivotal moment in the ongoing political saga in Jharkhand.
