Potka’s Innovative Football Coaching Empowers Girls Against Early Marriage

In Potka, football coaching for girls becomes a strategic move against child and forced marriages, showcasing sports as a platform for empowerment.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Chhota Sigdi Football Ground witnessed the commencement of an innovative football coaching session aimed at combating child marriage, under YUVA’s GFF program.

Girls from Chhota Sigdi village, Heselbil Panchayat, engaged in the program, breaking gender barriers and stereotypes through sports.

Under the guidance of Seema Bhumij, the young leader and coach, participants were introduced to football techniques and physical exercises.

The coaching session was designed to challenge patriarchal norms, highlighting how sports can redefine gender roles and societal expectations.

Participants learned about their rights and were encouraged to express their opinions freely, using sports as a medium to assert their identity.

The program also addressed gender discrimination, aiming to empower girls to dress freely and participate openly in sports.

Through football, the girls crafted a distinct presence in both their families and society, overcoming bodily discomfort and societal constraints.

YUVA activists Jyoti Hembram, Rila Sardar, Kiran Sardar, Ratan Paul, and Chandra Kala Munda played pivotal roles in the program’s success.

Seema Bhumij emphasized football’s role in social transformation, while a participant shared how the program boosted her confidence and awareness against gender bias.
