Jamshedpur’s Air Quality Plummets to ‘Unhealthy’ Levels at 260 AQI

Breathing city air equivalent to smoking 4 cigarettes daily, ranks 85th globally

Key Points:

* City records dangerous PM2.5 at 84 µg/m³ and PM10 at 174 µg/m³

* Carbon monoxide reaches alarming 992 ppb, threatening public health

* Clean and Green city status faces challenge amid rising pollution

JAMSHEDPUR – The Steel City’s reputation for environmental consciousness faces a severe test as air quality deteriorates significantly.

Recent measurements show disturbing pollution levels. The AQI reached 260 on November 23.

Moreover, harmful particulate matter concentrations have surged. PM2.5 and PM10 exceed safe limits.

Meanwhile, multiple pollutants contribute to the crisis. Carbon monoxide levels hit 992 ppb.

Furthermore, sulfur dioxide registered at 6 ppb. Nitrogen dioxide reached 14 ppb.

"These levels pose serious health risks," warned a local environmental expert.

However, preventive measures exist. Indoor air purifiers can provide some protection.

Besides, wearing N95 masks becomes crucial. They filter harmful particles effectively.

On the other hand, residents should limit outdoor activities. High pollution periods are particularly dangerous.

"Air quality impacts respiratory health significantly," noted a leading pulmonologist.

In addition, maintaining strong immunity helps. A balanced diet provides some protection.

Meanwhile, the city ranks 85th globally. This position demands immediate corrective action.
