CHANDIL — A head-on collision between two auto-rickshaws on the Tata-Ranchi Highway (NH-33) near Karni Dih-Bhadudih in the Chandil police station area left six passengers seriously injured on Sunday.
Two of the six injured were women. The scene of the accident turned chaotic immediately after the impact, with cries of distress heard from the crash site.
Both autos were travelling from Chandil towards Jamshedpur at the time of the collision. One of the vehicles was left completely mangled in the crash.
Road safety volunteer Shekhar Ganguly reached the spot after receiving information about the accident. He arranged for ambulances and ensured that all six injured passengers were transported to MGM Hospital for treatment.
Police arrived at the site and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Meanwhile, the condition of the injured was described as serious.
Villagers from the area raised fresh concerns over the recurring accidents on NH-33. They demanded that the administration take concrete steps to put a stop to the continuing spate of road crashes on the Tata-Ranchi Highway.
NH-33 has been the site of multiple fatal road accidents in recent months. The highway connects Chandil to both Jamshedpur and Ranchi, and carries heavy traffic through this stretch.
The district administration has previously been urged to address road safety concerns along this corridor. However, accidents on this stretch have continued to occur with regularity.
