Tata Motors Jamshedpur Announces Temporary Shutdown
Second Consecutive Block Closure Hits Tata Motors Plant
Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant will undergo a temporary block closure on February 17, impacting operations and employee salaries.
JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Motors has declared a block closure at its Jamshedpur plant for the upcoming Saturday, February 17, indicating a pause in operations until the following Monday, due to a shortfall in work orders.
This scheduled downtime, aligning with a general holiday on Sunday, ensures a two-day hiatus, mirroring the previous week’s shutdown on February 10.
The recurring closures mark a notable disruption in the plant’s activities, attributing to a significant reduction in workload within the facility.
Employees face a 50 percent salary cut during the closure period, underlining the financial implications of the repeated shutdowns on the workforce.
This operational decision is in accordance with an agreement established on July 31, 2017, which allows for such temporary halts in production, as agreed upon by company management and extended thereafter.
Sources hinted that the back-to-back block closures reflect broader challenges faced by the plant, necessitating adjustments in operation to manage fluctuations in demand and work order volume.
