Tata Steel Adventure Foundation Hosts Jamshedpur’s First Open Water Swim-a-thon
Dimna Lake Event Draws 93 Swimmers from 12 States in Historic Competition

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Adventure Foundation successfully conducted the city’s first open water swimming competition at Dimna Lake on Sunday.
The event took place on December 14, 2025. It marks a historic moment for eastern India’s sports landscape. Moreover, the initiative aims to popularize open water swimming regionally.
Debashish Chaudhary, Principal Executive Officer, attended as chief guest. Captain Manish Sinha, Head Sports, flagged off the competition. However, Hemant Gupta, Head TSAF and Sports Academies, joined the ceremony.
Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports, presided over the awards. Debashish Chaudhary jointly conducted the prize distribution ceremony. In addition, 93 participants registered from across 12 states.
The competition featured four distance categories for swimmers. Categories included 500 meters, 1 kilometer, 2.5 kilometers and 5 kilometers. Meanwhile, separate events were organized for male and female participants.
Shaurya Shukla won the men’s 500-meter race in 12 minutes. Hardik Bansal finished second with a time of 12:37. Furthermore, Himank secured third place at 12:39.
Sneha Majumdar claimed victory in the women’s 500-meter category. Her finishing time was 12:37 minutes. Besides, she competed against several talented swimmers.
Mo Raiyan Asad won the men’s 1-kilometer event. His completion time was 16:39 minutes. However, Harshil Daksh finished second at 16:42.
Mayukh Mandal secured third position in 1 kilometer. Rich Sahu won the women’s 1-kilometer race in 20:52. Moreover, Supriya Bharti Tiwari finished second at 39:50.
Priyanka Rani claimed third place in women’s 1 kilometer. Deepanshu Singh dominated the men’s 2.5-kilometer category with 50:12. Meanwhile, Aditya Singh finished as runner-up at 50:40.
Vagish Kumar secured third position at 52:31 minutes. Ritisha Das won the women’s 2.5-kilometer event in 01:02:30. However, Pinky Kumari finished second at 01:37:20.
Sonal Mishra claimed third place at 01:38:45 minutes. Parv Rawal won the men’s 5-kilometer race in 01:32:08. In addition, Shashwat Sharma finished second at 01:41:43.
Digvijay Chauhan secured third position at 01:56:35 minutes. G Shruti won the women’s 5-kilometer event in 02:02:33. Besides, Rekha Gupta finished as runner-up at 03:17:46.
Aditi Singh claimed third place at 03:40:30 minutes. TSAF prioritized participant safety throughout the entire competition. Trained lifeguards monitored the complete course continuously.
Rescue rafts were positioned strategically across the lake. Kayaks provided additional safety coverage for all swimmers. Moreover, motorboats patrolled the competition area constantly.
Scuba divers remained on standby during the event. Emergency response teams were stationed at multiple locations. However, ambulances were present on-site for medical emergencies.
All swimmers wore mandatory tow float buoys. The equipment enhanced visibility in open water significantly. Furthermore, it ensured better safety for all participants.
Open water swimming gains momentum across India currently. The competition provided a platform for showcasing endurance. Meanwhile, swimmers demonstrated their skills in natural water conditions.
TSAF’s initiative received enthusiastic response from swimming communities. Participants appreciated the well-organized competition structure. In addition, the scenic Dimna Lake provided ideal conditions.
The event establishes Jamshedpur as a future hub for the sport. The foundation plans to organize similar events annually. Besides, the competition promotes adventure sports in eastern India.
