Jamshedpur court imposes life imprisonment on two for BJYM leader’s murder, along with a hefty fine.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Principal District and Sessions Judge, Anil Kumar Mishra, handed down life sentences to Sonu Singh and Kamal Sharma for the murder of BJYM leader Suraj Kumar.

The court also imposed a combined fine of Rs 55,000 on the culprits, with additional penalties applicable if the fine remains unpaid.

For the murder under IPC section 302, a life sentence and Rs 30,000 fine were ordered, while for concealing evidence under section 201, a seven-year term and Rs 25,000 fine were mandated, both to run concurrently.

The conviction of Singh and Sharma was announced last Friday, following the presentation of the prosecution’s case by Advocate Prabhat Shankar Tiwari.

The fatal attack on Suraj Kumar occurred on December 7, 2021, when he was intercepted by the accused, leading to a conversation that turned violent.

Sonu’s assault with a sharp weapon inflicted critical injuries on Suraj, who later died at TMH on December 9 after the attackers fled the scene.

This verdict marks a significant conclusion to the legal proceedings surrounding the tragic event that shook the Bagbera police station area, ensuring justice for Suraj Kumar’s family.
