Ambulance Staff in Jamshedpur Threaten Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Ambulance workers in Jamshedpur face hunger due to non-payment of wages for five months, now threatening to strike.

JAMSHEDPUR – Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and ambulance drivers servicing government hospitals in Jamshedpur are on the brink of a hunger crisis, as they have not been paid their salaries for the past five months.

Due to this critical situation, the employees have decided to go on strike until their due salaries are paid.

They submitted a memorandum outlining their predicament and their decision to strike to the concerned authorities.

These crucial healthcare staff members, who operate the ‘108’ ambulance service in government hospitals, have been living under worsening conditions with each passing month.

Their families are feeling the pinch, with many facing the threat of starvation.

Despite making their plight known to the authorities on multiple occasions, their salaries have remained unpaid.

In addition, their provident fund contributions are still being deducted despite the non-payment of salaries.

In East Singhbhum district, where this issue is emerging, there are 23 ‘108’ service ambulances in operation.

A strike by these workers could lead to a severe healthcare crisis, particularly affecting patients in rural areas.

Ambulance driver Vasudev Karmakar gave insight into their dire circumstances, revealing that his family is heavily in debt due to the lack of salary.

The employees have stated their demands, and they are determined to continue with an indefinite strike until these are met.
