Housing Board’s Anti-Encroachment Drive Halted Amid Protests in Adityapur

In Adityapur, Jharkhand, a court-ordered anti-encroachment drive by the State Housing Board faced significant opposition, leading to a temporary halt in the operation.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand State Housing Board’s efforts to reclaim illegally encroached land in Adityapur faced a major setback.

During a recent operation in Dindali, aimed at removing encroachments on plots legally allotted by the Board, the team encountered strong resistance from local residents.

This opposition forced the authorities to cease the action midway, resulting in the withdrawal of the entire team.

The operation, which saw the involvement of CI Manoj Singh from Gamharia zonal office and a police force, initially succeeded in demolishing one of two asbestos-roofed houses on the contested land near Kochakuli in Dindli.

However, the sight of an elderly woman, a resident of the demolished house, in distress quickly garnered public sympathy and escalated into a protest.

Women protesters, who were later removed by the female police force, demanded a halt to the demolition, claiming legal recourse in the matter.

This incident underscores the complex challenges faced by authorities in addressing land encroachment issues, particularly when it involves settlements that have been established over time.
