Tribal Groups to Protest ED Action Against Jharkhand CM
Ranchi Gears Up for Tribal Protests at Raj Bhawan Against ED Summons to CM Soren
In response to the ED’s summons to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, tribal organizations plan a significant protest at Raj Bhawan, Ranchi, highlighting political tensions and demands for fair treatment.
RANCHI – On the eve of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), five tribal organizations are set to stage a protest near Raj Bhawan in Ranchi.
The groups, including Kendriya Sarna Samity and Adivasi Sena, are rallying against what they perceive as the BJP-led Centre’s misuse of the ED to target the state’s tribal chief minister.
Kendriya Sarna Samity President Ajit Tirkey accused the ED of harassing an elected tribal leader and alleged Governor CP Radhakrishnan’s support for the agency.
This protest, according to Tirkey, is a response to repeated summonses issued to Soren, despite his cooperation with the ED since November 2022.
Governor Radhakrishnan, countering these accusations, stated that the ED is merely performing its duty and emphasized that no chief minister is above the law.
He addressed concerns about potential law and order issues, asserting the ED’s right to conduct its investigation and the CM’s obligation to respond appropriately.
The ED’s inquiry involves a money laundering case tied to an alleged land scam, with Soren agreeing to answer questions on January 20.
JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya highlighted the public’s growing discontent over the ED’s actions.
Simultaneously, JMM’s call for a bandh in Sahibganj led to disruptions, underscoring the political tension surrounding the ED’s summons.
