Ruckus at Jhargram Station Over Train Delays in Kharagpur Division
Angry commuters disrupt train services at Jhargram Station in Kharagpur Division.
JAMSHEDPUR – A significant disturbance erupted at Jhargram station of the Kharagpur Railway Division on Thursday morning, as passengers, predominantly railway workers and daily commuters, protested the delay of several local trains, including the Steel Express.
The protestors, frustrated by the frequent holding of passenger trains to prioritize goods trains, descended onto the railway tracks, disrupting services and chanting slogans.
This demonstration highlights the growing dissatisfaction among passengers, particularly those who rely on these trains for daily work commutes.
The protestors allege that the routine practice of prioritizing goods trains over passenger trains has caused them to be consistently late for duty.
Responding to the chaos, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived at the scene to manage the situation and attempted to pacify the agitated passengers.
Railway passengers said that this incident at Jhargram station underscores the challenges faced by railway authorities in balancing freight and passenger train operations and the impact of such decisions on the daily lives of commuters.
They said that the unrest among passengers calls for a re-evaluation of scheduling practices by the Kharagpur Railway Division, aiming to mitigate the inconvenience caused to daily commuters.
They added that such incidents also emphasize the need for effective communication and grievance redressal mechanisms within the railway system to address commuter concerns promptly and efficiently.
