Railway Safety Preparedness Drill Held in Kharagpur by SER

SER’s Kharagpur Division tests disaster management with NDRF mock drill.

KHARAGPUR – In a proactive move to ensure safety preparedness, the Railway Administration conducted a comprehensive mock drill on Wednesday, 29th November, in the Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railway (SER).

The exercise, aimed at testing disaster management readiness, was conducted in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Team (NDRF) at Nimpura yard, Kharagpur.

This drill was a joint effort between the NDRF and Kharagpur Railway to assess the preparedness and skill level of the staff in emergency situations.

As the hooter sounded, railway officers and employees swiftly mobilized with relief items, simulating a real disaster response scenario.

The DRM of Kharagpur took an active role in overseeing the relief and rescue operations.

Senior DSO/KGP Amit Kumar led the disaster response team, which included members from various departments such as Commercial, S&T, Operating, Mechanical, Medical, Engineering, RPF, Civil Defence, Security, and the NDRF.

The teams showcased their capabilities in safeguarding life and property during disaster situations.

Key facilities like medical services, inquiry assistance booth, first aid booth, and ex-gratia payment booth were set up for the drill.

At approximately 11.30 am, a hooter was sounded from the DRM office in Kharagpur, marking the commencement of the operation.

An accident relief train and medical van were promptly dispatched to the mock disaster site, where the team began immediate relief work.

Dummies were strategically placed inside the damaged coaches to simulate real-life casualties.

Upon completion of the drill, DRM Kharagpur declared the exercise a success, emphasizing its importance in ensuring readiness for actual disaster scenarios.

This mock drill represents a vital aspect of SER’s commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and preparedness across its railway network.
