ONTHHPC Athletes Shine in FIH Women’s Junior World Cup Team Selection

Two exceptional players from the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High-Performance Centre (ONTHHPC) are set to represent India in the FIH Women’s Junior World Cup in Chile on November 29, 2023.

BHUBANESWAR – The ONTHHPC, a leading field hockey development center, has achieved a significant milestone with two of its players being selected for the prestigious tournament.

Established in 2019 by the Government of Odisha, Tata Steel, and Tata Trusts (Hockey Ace Foundation), the ONTHHPC operates at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

It offers world-class facilities and a residential program designed to nurture top field hockey talent in both girls and boys.

ONTHHPC’s focus extends beyond elite player creation; it also promotes grassroots hockey in Odisha.

The center’s training programs have resulted in six Junior International and two Sub-Junior International women players, and four Sub-Junior International Men players, showcasing its effective talent development approach.

Midfielder Jyothi Chattri, now a crucial player in the Indian senior women’s hockey squad, will participate in the Junior World Cup.

Her success is a testament to ONTHHPC’s commitment to high-quality training and athlete development.

Forward Dipi Monika Toppo, another outstanding product of the center, has also secured her place among the elite, contributing to ONTHHPC’s growing reputation as a nursery of hockey talent.

Rajiv Seth, Project Director of ONTHHPC & Head Sports-Odisha at Tata Steel, expressed excitement over the players’ national representation.

He attributed their success to the combined efforts of the players, coaches, and the continuous support from the Government of Odisha, Tata Steel, and Tata Trusts.

ONTHHPC’s innovative approach includes early exposure to sports science methodologies and adoption of advanced Athlete Management systems with technological upgrades, ensuring that its players are well-prepared for the demands of modern national camps.

In addition to elite training, ONTHHPC is actively involved in grassroots hockey development across 12 districts in Odisha, operating 28 facilities, including 20 HTC Astro turfs and 8 grass pitch centers.

The selection of ONTHHPC players for the Junior World Cup in Chile is a significant achievement, highlighting the center’s role in shaping the future of Indian hockey and its commitment to producing top-tier players for international competitions.
