JAMSHEDPUR – In a significant crackdown, the Jamshedpur Police have arrested three members of a gang involved in a honeytrapping scheme executed via video chats on social media platforms. The apprehended individuals, identified as Asif Raja, Jagjit Singh, and Sameer Sharma from Jugsalai, have reportedly victimized numerous people through their deceptive tactics. SSP Kishore Kaushal, in a press conference at the Jugsalai police station, revealed the modus operandi of the gang.
By creating fake IDs on popular platforms like Facebook and Instagram, these culprits impersonated women and engaged in conversations with unsuspecting individuals.
Their method involved sending obscene videos to trap their victims, followed by demands for money.
Investigations into the complaints led to the discovery of call recordings and details that corroborated the fraudulent activities of Raja, Singh, and Sharma.
In addition to this group, the SSP mentioned the detention of another individual from Chakulia, currently under interrogation.
This person is allegedly involved in a separate scam, tricking people with messages pertaining to electricity bills.
The police’s swift action highlights their commitment to combatting cybercrime and protecting citizens from such deceptive schemes.
