Truck Brake Failure Leads to Stampede, Death and Injuries in Bistupur
One devotee killed and five injured due to truck brake failure during Durga idol immersion in Jamshedpur; authorities scramble to address the situation.
JAMSHEDPUR – A tragic accident unfolded at Beni Bodhanwala Ghat during Durga Puja idol immersion under the jurisdiction of Bistupur police station on Vijayadashami evening, claiming one life and injuring five others.
The incident occurred when a truck carrying a Durga idol for immersion suffered brake failure, crashing into pedestrians and eventually entering the river.

Immediate intervention from police and administrative officials led to the injured being rushed to TMH Hospital, where one victim, identified as Virendra Sharma from Kitadih, succumbed to his injuries.
Political leaders, including Jamshedpur East MLA K Saryu Roy and BJP leader Kunal Sarangi, have condoled the deaths and have urged the local administration to extend all help to the victims.
Former Chief Minister and recently appointed Governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, expressed concern and offered prayers for the victims.
The former Jamshedpur MP and Congress leader Dr. Ajoy Kumar, in a message, has condoled the demise of a devotee.
In a message, he said: “ Just some time ago, a tragic accident took place during the immersion procession in Jamshedpur. Due to which 1 person died and 6 were injured. I have come to Telangana today but my endeavor will be to provide all possible help to the families. I have also spoken to officials in Jamshedpur in this regard. My condolences to the families of the dead and injured.”
