Strategic Partnership Aims to Revolutionize Mining Operations with Technological Advances

Tata Steel and CSIR-CIMFR ink MoU to pioneer sustainable and efficient technologies in mining; aim to reshape the industry’s future.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a strategic move to revamp the mining sector, Tata Steel and the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CSIR-CIMFR) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The signing ceremony was held on August 22, 2023, in Ranchi, marking the conclusion of CSIR-CIMFR’s week-long "One Week One Lab" program.

D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Raw Materials at Tata Steel, and Dr. J K Pandey, Chief Scientist at CSIR-CIMFR, were the principal signatories.

A number of high-ranking officials from both organizations were present, including Atul Bhatnagar, General Manager of Ore, Mines & Quarries at Tata Steel, and Dr. N Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR.

The collaborative endeavor aims to spearhead research and development in various areas of mining, including exploration, mining operations, and processing.

Tata Steel’s commitment to this partnership signals a concerted focus on sustainability and innovation.

According to D B Sundara Ramam, this alliance will accelerate the development of new technologies for more efficient and sustainable mining.

Both organizations anticipate mutual benefits, with Tata Steel expecting to elevate its mining operations, and CSIR-CIMFR gaining from Tata Steel’s industry expertise.
