112 Students Explore CSIR-NML in Jamshedpur for Scientific Insights

112 students visit CSIR-NML for a scientific excursion; focus on AI, steel industry, hands-on experiments.

JAMSHEDPUR – A total of 112 students from various schools, accompanied by 15 teachers, were part of a memorable visit to CSIR-NML (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – National Metallurgical Laboratory) in Jamshedpur.

The program was meticulously organized under the banner of the "6th Scientific Excursion 2023" and "Knowledge & Awareness Mapping Platform" (KAMP), including the "National Assessment for Scientific Temperament and Aptitude" (NASTA).

Aimed at enhancing the scientific temperament and creating awareness and knowledge of scientific aptitude among school students, the visit was more than just an educational outing.

Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Chief Scientist & Head, MTE Division, CSIR-NML, provided a warm welcome address and introduced the students to the world of CSIR and its myriad research activities.

Students were treated to a hands-on experience through the "Hands-on Experiment" activity, focusing on the creation of a coin battery and exploring mutual inductance.

Suman Tewary, Senior Scientist, AMP Division, delivered a captivating lecture on Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, opening up new vistas of understanding.

Furthermore, Dr. Arpita Ghosh, Principal Scientist, AMP Division, engaged the students with insights into Artificial Intelligence solutions tailored for the steel industry, a subject of great relevance to the region.

The program also included intriguing lab visits at the Urban Ore Recycling Centre, AAC, and Creep Section, rounding off a day filled with learning, exploration, and inspiration.
