High-Profile Accused of Several Cases Apprehended on Extortion Charges

Santosh Gupta, accused in several serious cases, was caught demanding money from truck drivers on NH-33; police seize weapons and vehicle, while an accomplice escapes.

JAMSHEDPUR – Santosh Gupta, a well-known accused of several cases and allegedly associated with the Paramjeet Singh gang, has been apprehended by the police for allegedly attempting to extort money from truck drivers on NH-33 at Pardih Chowk.

Known for his being accused in severe criminal offenses, including the suspected 2003 murder of Vikash Debuka, the owner of an oil factory, Gupta has been a feared figure.

Despite being charged with the heinous crime of Debuka’s murder, Gupta was exonerated, with the presumption of innocence aiding his acquittal.

During the attempted extortion on NH-33, police managed to seize a semi-automatic weapon, a magazine, and a car that Gupta and his accomplice were using allegedly to commit their crimes along the National Highway.

Although Gupta was caught, his accomplice managed to evade capture, fleeing from the crime scene.

A significant incident occurred when Gupta and his partner shot one of the truck drivers, Mohammed Sadakat Chowdhury, in their aggressive extortion bid.

Chowdhury, the victim of the shooting, was immediately rushed to MGM Medical College Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Prompt action by law enforcement officers led to the capture of Gupta at Pardih, an area under the jurisdiction of the Azad Nagar police station.

The police were alerted to the criminal activities at a roadside tea shop in the wee hours of the night, where Gupta and his partner targeted the truck driver.

Swiftly responding to the notification, the police arrived on the scene only to find that the culprits had already fired at the driver in an effort to extract money.

Santosh Gupta’s apprehension marks a crucial victory for the police, but the ongoing threat of his unidentified partner continues to loom.
