Passengers Halt CKP-Tata MEMU Train in Seraikela Over Delays, Disrupt Mumbai-Howrah Route

Frustrated passengers halted Chakradharpur-Tata Memo passenger train in Seraikela over repeated delays, leading to a 3-hour disruption on the Howrah-Mumbai rail route.

SERAIKELA – Tired of the consistent lateness of trains, passengers of the Chakradharpur-Tata Memu passenger train took matters into their own hands on Friday.

They stopped the train near Yashpur railway crossing under Gamharia police station of Seraikela, disrupting the Howrah-Mumbai rail route for 3 hours.

A large number of passengers alighted from the train and blocked the railway track in front of the engine.

Chakradharpur-Tata Memu Passenger serves as an essential means of transportation for travelers from several stations like Chakradharpur, Rajkharsawan, Sini and Gamharia.

Every day, hundreds of laborers rely on the train to reach Adityapur’s industrial area for work.

The persistent lateness has led to these workers missing their shifts, resulting in lost wages and opportunities.

According to the passengers, multiple complaints to railway officials and demands for timely service have fallen on deaf ears.

Even on Friday, the train was halted at various places, exacerbating the lateness.

Upon reaching the Yashpur gate on the Sini-Gamharia railway line, the train stopped again, triggering the passengers’ fury.

They collectively blocked the railway route, leading to a complete disruption.

Senior railway officials later arrived at the scene, assuring passengers that they would make every possible effort to run the train on time.

After much persuasion, the passengers’ anger subsided, and train movement resumed.

The incident highlights a concerning neglect by railway authorities, with grievances only being addressed after a mass protest.
