Jharkhand Karate Championship Commemorates JRD Tata’s 119th Birth Year

300 athletes from across Jharkhand contested in the 3rd State Open Karate Championship 2023 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, honouring JRD Tata’s 119th birth anniversary.

JAMSHEDPUR – The concluding note came from the chief organiser and head coach of the championship, Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao from Tata Steel Karate Training Centre.

His expressions of gratitude were aimed at the valuable assistance from Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Hemant Gupta, Anand Menezes, Asmita Dorjee, Senior Instructor, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, Dr. Hassan Imam, Senior Manager, Tata Steel, R. Pawan Kumar, Sr. Manager, Poonam Kumari Goswami, and other ground staff.

Their support was invaluable in making the championship a resounding success.

Shihan Nepal Vishwakarma, Shihan Shahzad Qurashi, Sensei Priyabrata Dutta, Sensei Lal Mohan, Sensei Somnath Bose, and Sensei Shubodh Karua were also appreciated by Rao.

Their active participation greatly added to the smooth conduct of the championship.

The championship ended with a ceremony attended by many luminaries including Olympian Anand Menezes, Hemant Gupta, Chief Sports Tata Steel, and Mukul Vinayak Choudhary.

Rao commended Sarojini Lakra for her prompt attendance and the Senior Judges and Referees for helping the competition run without a hitch.

Sarojini Lakra, the Director of Sports for the Government of Jharkhand, was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony.

Lakra, in her speech, lauded Tata Steel for their continued efforts in promoting sports.

She also commended the staff of the Tata Steel Sports Department and Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao for the flawless organisation of the championship.

The students of Tata Steel Karate Training Centre emerged as the champions of the event, scoring 42 points.

Their coaches, Sensei Niraj Kumar and Sampai Karnisha Das, received the Champion’s Trophy.

Coming in as runners-up with 36 points were the West Singhbhum District Team.

The Runner’s Trophy was received by their trainers, Senseis Sumit Kumar Senapati and Shubodh Karua.
