Key Points:

JAMSHEDPUR – A young man was killed in a violent daylight assault in the Mango police station area on Wednesday, and investigators believe the attack stemmed from a dispute over a romantic relationship.
The victim has been identified as Rahul. He was reportedly attacked with both a firearm and bladed weapons near Gurudwara Road, an area that falls under the jurisdiction of the Murder cases typically handled by local police.
According to preliminary accounts, Rahul and another young man named Shabbe had been locked in a prolonged dispute. Both men were reportedly in contact with the same young woman, and tension between them had been building for some time. However, the rivalry escalated dramatically on Wednesday.
Witnesses said that as soon as Rahul reached Gurudwara Road, Shabbe was waiting in ambush. He was allegedly accompanied by ten to fifteen associates who surrounded Rahul before the assault began. The group then attacked him repeatedly with sharp weapons.
During the assault, Rahul was also shot. The sudden violence caused panic among bystanders, many of whom fled the area in fear for their own safety.
Local residents rushed Rahul to Tata Main Hospital for emergency treatment once news of the attack spread. Doctors, however, declared him dead after examination. His family and relatives gathered at the hospital in grief once word of his death reached them.
Mango police reached both the crime scene and the hospital after being alerted, and immediately opened an investigation. Officers have collected evidence from the site of the attack and are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras installed in the surrounding area.
Investigators say the case appears connected to a personal dispute, though they noted that all angles are being examined before conclusions are drawn. Meanwhile, all the accused managed to escape from the scene following the assault.
Police have intensified raids on locations believed to be linked to the accused in an effort to make arrests. Officials expressed confidence that all those involved would be apprehended soon. The killing has raised fresh concerns among residents in the Jamshedpur area regarding law and order in the Mango locality.
Similar incidents of violence tied to personal disputes have periodically surfaced in the region. In 2023, a young man in Mango was found dead under circumstances that also drew police scrutiny. Separately, a case involving a Mango resident in a life-threatening situation had similarly drawn local attention in recent years, as had an earlier gunpoint robbery case in the same locality that remains unresolved. A separate critical incident in Mango also required urgent hospital intervention. Elsewhere in the district, a shooting in Govindpur last year followed a similar pattern of targeted violence, while a case in Kitadih also saw armed attackers flee after opening fire.
