IMD predicts ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ in eastern and northeastern regions, with increased rainfall in northwest India on the horizon.
JAMSHEDPUR – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ in the eastern and northeastern regions of the country in the upcoming days. There is also an expectation of increased rainfall in northwest India between August 2-3.
Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi are predicted to experience light to moderate, and even heavy rainfall, between July 30 and August 3.
Moderate rainfall along with isolated heavy rainfall is likely to take place in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the next five days’, the IMD reported.
Rainfall Predictions for East and Northeast India
In east India, light as well as heavy rainfall is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands from July 30 to August 3. The northeast region is very likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next five days. ‘Heavy rainfall is also likely to take place in Arunachal Pradesh on August 2-3. Similar conditions are expected in Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during August 1-3’, the IMD noted.
Forecasts for Western and Southern India
As per the IMD, in West India, moderate rainfall along with heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Goa and Maharashtra in the next five days.
‘In south India, moderate isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Telangana on August 1 and in coastal Karnataka on August 2 and 3’, the IMD added.
Overall, heavy to very heavy rainfall activity is likely to continue over east, northeast and east central India during the next 4-5 days.
Enhancement of rainfall activity along the west coast on 2nd and 3rd August and reduction in rainfall activity are likely to continue for remaining parts of peninsular India during the next 4-5 days (30 July-3 Aug).
