Tata Steel Reappoints TV Narendran as CEO and MD for Five More Years

Tata Steel announces the reappointment of TV Narendran as CEO and MD for another term, awaiting shareholder approval.

JAMSHEDPUR – On Monday, Tata Steel announced that TV Narendran will serve another five years as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, starting on September 19, 2023.

His current term is set to expire on September 18, 2023.

Narendran’s reappointment as CEO and MD for another five years will not be subject to rotational retirement, the corporation stated.

However, this reappointment needs to be approved by the shareholders.

Narendran has been with Tata Steel since 1988 and has over 35 years of experience in the mining and metals industry.

He was first appointed as the company’s Managing Director for India and South East Asia on November 1, 2013.

Before his tenure as Managing Director, Narendran served as Tata Steel’s Vice President (Safety & Flat Products).

He joined the company after completing his MBA from IIM Calcutta in 1988.

He has also participated in the Advanced Management Programme at CEDEP – INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and is a Chevening Scholar.

In October 2017, Narendran was promoted to the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director globally.

During his tenure as CEO and MD, he has overseen both the organic and inorganic growth of Tata Steel.

This includes significant acquisitions like Bhushan Steel Limited (later known as Tata Steel BSL Limited) and the steel businesses of Usha Martin Limited, Neelanchal Ispat Nigam Limited, and Rohit Ferro-Tech Limited.

Narendran also currently serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Tata Steel Nederland BV, Tata Steel Long Products Limited, and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited.
