JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur Police have set up a commendable record by returning more than a thousand lost or accidentally misplaced mobile phones to their rightful owners.
A recent camp held at the multipurpose hall of the Bistupur police station saw the handover of 187 of these mobile devices.
Out of these 187, 163 belonged to urban areas while 24 were from rural areas.

The initiative, according to East Singhbhum SSP Prabhat Kumar, came about when it was discovered during a crime meeting that over 3,000 lost mobile phones were lying unattended in police custody.
So far, a total of 1,147 phones have been returned under this directive.
Reports of lost mobiles come from both within and outside the state and city boundaries, and the Jamshedpur Police handle these with utmost diligence.

For the procedure, citizens are required to save the police-issued phone number 9006123444 in their mobiles.
Upon sending a simple greeting word to this number, a link to a Google form appears which requires filling out with essential information like the name of your local police station, your name, address, mobile number, an ID card, and a mobile bill or box picture.
After the form is submitted, the police start the process of locating the phone, and once found, information is sent to the registered email of the owner.
