Tata Steel Mining Joins Hands with French Firm METRON for Advanced Energy Management

Tata Steel Mining signs an MoU with METRON to implement an advanced energy management platform, aiming to boost efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Mining Limited (TSML) has forged a partnership with French Cleantech company METRON by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

METRON, a prominent provider of cloud-based energy management solutions, will aid TSML in designing and implementing an advanced energy management and optimization platform for its Ferro Alloys Plant located at Athagarh in Odisha’s Cuttack district.

As outlined in the MoU, METRON will develop a software solution enabling Tata Steel Mining to monitor, analyze, and optimize its energy consumption in real-time, thus reducing its carbon footprint across plant utilities.

The move is anticipated to facilitate the company’s digitalization of energy to decarbonize territories, lower costs, optimize energy usage, and enhance operational efficiency overall.

The cloud-based energy management and optimization platform will grant Tata Steel Mining real-time visibility of energy usage throughout the plant.

This visibility will allow the company to identify areas needing improvement and make data-driven decisions to optimize energy consumption.

Utilizing advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, the platform will provide predictive insights and recommendations, thus empowering the company to decrease energy consumption and lessen its carbon footprint.

Commenting on the partnership, Pankaj Satija, Managing Director of Tata Steel Mining, said, “Our partnership with METRON reflects our commitment to energy efficiency and lower carbon footprint. We are excited to use their advanced energy management and optimization platform at our Ferro Alloys Plant in Athagarh. We expect the platform to help us reduce energy consumption, improve operational efficiency and productivity.”

Earlier, Tata Steel Mining had entered into an agreement with FluxGen Sustainable Technologies for the digitization of its water consumption through a digital dashboard at its Ferro chrome units and mines.
