Asmita Dorjee: Jamshedpur Mountaineer Triumphs Over Everest, Returns Home
Celebrations are in order as Jamshedpur’s own Asmita Dorjee, from Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, scales Everest. She triumphs over nature’s most fearsome challenge.
JAMSHEDPUR – Asmita Dorjee, an acclaimed mountaineer and member of the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation in Jamshedpur, has achieved the impossible – conquering Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.
Dorjee scaled the Everest on 23rd May 2023 and returned to a hero’s welcome at JRD Sports Complex.
In her second attempt, Dorjee successfully scaled Everest without the aid of supplemental oxygen, a feat that she narrowly missed out on last year due to adverse weather conditions. This achievement has placed her amongst the elite climbers who have managed this daring endeavor.
“After reaching the summit, I faced difficulty in breathing. My Sherpa then suggested I use oxygen, which I did,” said Dorjee, describing her near-death experience atop Everest. She recalled the harrowing journey, stating, “I saw death closely while climbing Everest. Many of my companions perished during the ascent.”
A Tata Steel Sports department official said: “Her extraordinary feat showed her unwavering determination and sheer tenacity. Jamshedpur celebrates its home-grown hero’s monumental achievement and lauds her courage, her spirit, and her indomitable resolve.”
