Bokaro Observes World No Tobacco Day with Awareness Rally Led by Civil Surgeon
On World No Tobacco Day, Bokaro’s medical officials launch awareness rally, emphasizing dangers of tobacco and promoting de-addiction centers.
BOKARO – In light of World No Tobacco Day, an awareness rally, ‘Prabhat Pheri’, was flagged off in Bokaro by Civil Surgeon Dr. Abhay Bhushan Prasad and Nodal Officer Dr. Celina Tudu.
The rally aimed to inform the public about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to highlight the primary provisions of COTPA 2003 (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act).
Dr. Abhay Bhushan Prasad pointed out that tobacco-related diseases claim the lives of approximately 13 lakh individuals each year.
To combat this, he emphasized the need for de-addiction efforts and the availability of two tobacco de-addiction centers in Bokaro district – one in Sadar Hospital Bokaro (Room No. 13 OPD) and the other in Bokaro General Hospital (Room No. 09 OPD). He urged the public to contact these centers or call the toll-free number 1800-11-2356 for assistance.
Dr. Prasad concluded by appealing to the people of Bokaro to embrace the theme of this year’s World No Tobacco Day – “We want food. Not tobacco”.
The theme is meant to inspire people to reject tobacco and promote healthier choices.
