Protests Erupt over Renaming of Lohardaga’s Historic Nadia Hindu High School
BJP Yuva Morcha burns CM Hemant Soren’s effigy, opposing the renaming of Nadia Hindu High School in Lohardaga to CM School of Excellence.
RANCHI – A protest took a heated turn as BJP Yuva Morcha activists in Lohardaga burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the local Barwa Toli Chowk.
The protest was staged against the renaming of Lohardaga’s historic Nadia Hindu High School by the Chief Minister.
BJP State Working Committee member Omprakash Singh highlighted that Nadia Hindu High School, one of Lohardaga’s oldest high schools, had the word ‘Hindu’ removed from its name under Soren’s orders. The school has been renamed to ‘CM School of Excellence Lohardaga’. This is part of a wider plan to rebrand 80 schools developed under the Adarsh Vidyalaya Yojana as CM Schools of Excellence.
Founded in 1931, before independence, the Nadia Hindu High School carries a historical significance.
BJP leaders argue that the use of the term ‘excellence’ is a reflection of a slave mentality to the British during the colonial era.
In response to this, the Lohardaga BJP Yuva Morcha staged a protest, demanding that the historic name of Nadia Hindu High School be retained. Hundreds of BJP workers were in attendance at the protest.
