JAMSHEDPUR – A 60-year-old woman was tragically killed in a road accident on NH-33 near Turiyabeda, under MGM police jurisdiction, early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred when the woman, riding a bicycle, was crossing the highway. A Scorpio, reportedly speeding towards Dimna from Ghatsila, hit her, causing severe injuries. Eyewitnesses stated the vehicle was moving at an exceptionally high speed.
Police promptly arrived at the scene, detaining the two people in the Scorpio and impounding the vehicle. The critically injured woman was rushed to MGM Hospital for medical attention, but doctors declared her dead upon examination.
MGM police station in-charge confirmed that the body has been preserved in the morgue for post-mortem examination. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the woman’s identity. The stretch of NH-33 is notorious for speeding incidents, and authorities are expected to increase patrolling in the area.
This marks the second fatal accident in the area within two months, highlighting the need for stricter traffic regulations. Road safety experts have repeatedly urged for speed control measures, particularly on accident-prone highways like NH-33.
