Elderly couple killed in Jharkhand over witchcraft allegations; panchayat orders brutal punishment, 13 arrested.
Ranchi: In a shocking incident in the Chandwa area of the Latehar district in Jharkhand, an elderly couple was brutally beaten to death by villagers over allegations of witchcraft.
The couple, identified as Sibal Ganjhu and Boni Devi, were targeted by the villagers who believed they practiced witchcraft.
Villagers Take Law into Their Own Hands
Despite their denial of the allegations, a village panchayat was set up and accused the couple of witchcraft. With no regard for the couple’s pleas of innocence, the panchayat proceeded to take matters into their own hands.
Panchayat Orders Brutal Punishment
The panchayat ordered a cruel punishment for the couple: to be beaten with sticks until death. As the couple cried out in pain, the villagers carried out the ruthless sentence, ultimately resulting in the couple’s demise on the spot.
13 Arrested in Connection with the Case
In response to the incident, local police arrived in the village to investigate and question the locals. They have since arrested 13 people in connection with the case. The investigation is still ongoing, and no official statement has been released by the police.
