Villagers Protest Proposed Heavy Vehicle Training Site in Ghatshila Circle, Cite Cultural and Livelihood Concerns
Villagers in Ghatshila Circle of East Singhbhum protest proposed heavy vehicle training site, citing cultural and livelihood concerns.
Jamshedpur – The district administration faces opposition once again from local villagers over the land selected for a heavy vehicle training site in the Ghatshila circle of East Singhbhum district.
The proposed site is in Murajhor village, Baghudia panchayat, where the Circle Officer had initially obtained the consent of the villagers for the training centre.
However, on Monday, villagers armed with traditional weapons demonstrated at the district headquarters, demanding the cancellation of the heavy vehicle training site.
They accused the concerned Circle Officer of coercing them into giving up their land.
According to the villagers, the land in question is a Jaher Than, cremation ground for the tribal community, and also pasture land.
They argued that the forced acquisition of the land is illegal and would endanger their culture and livelihoods.
This is not the first instance of opposition from villagers; they had previously protested against a proposed training center in Pipla.
Following that, the district administration developed a new action plan to establish the training center in Baghudia Panchayat, only to face resistance once more.
The future location of the heavy vehicle training center, intended to provide employment-oriented education, remains uncertain as the district administration’s plans face ongoing challenges.
