Maithili community to celebrate Judi-Sheetal festival on April 14

Jamshedpur: Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad will celebrate the upcoming Judi-Sheetal festival on April 14 on a grand scale.

Highlighting the importance of Sheetal, Pankaj Kumar Jha, the general secretary of the Parishad, said on Sunday at the Laxminath Paramhans Goswami Mandir that our sages had invented this practice centuries ago to preserve nature, especially given how it is being exploited today.

He said that it is up to the younger generation to save nature and following the practice of Judi-Sheetal can help preserve it while also sending a message to future generations.

He said that the Antarrashtriya Maithili Parishad has decided to celebrate it at a grand scale. He was speaking to the media on Sunday at Lakshminath Paramhans Goswami Temple in Jamshedpur.

He said that the festivals in India have both literal and scientific significance, with all festivals based on scientific principles. One such festival is Sheetal, which has been practiced in Mithilanchal since ancient times.

Every year on April 14th, the people of Mithila celebrate the Sheetal festival with great enthusiasm, as it marks the start of the new year for those who are rooted in Mithila.

On this day, the members of the Maithili community cool down the environment by pouring water on trees and plants, he said.
