Gangster Krishna Gope running extortion racket from jail: SHO

Jamshedpur, Aug 24: Notorious gangster Krishna Gope of Seraikela-Kharsawan is demanding extortion money from traders, businessmen and contractors from the cells of Seraikela Divisional Jail. This was revealed here following the arrest of two goons of his gang.

Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested two associates of notorious gangster Krishna Gope for allegedly demanding extortion money from one Uday Pratap Singh of Olidih, Jamshedpur.

According to Mohammad Tanzil Khan, station house officer (SHO), RIT police station, “We have arrested Rohit Lohar and Nikhil Mahato from Bargidih, Asangi, in connection with the extortion demand. The two were acting at the behest of the jailed gangster Krishna Gope. They have confessed to having threatened the complainant and demanded extortion money from him.”

The complainant, a resident of Road No 5, Sankosai, Mahavir Colony, Kharia Basti, had lodged a police complaint after getting threatening calls from the gangster and his goons. Police have seized a Samsung mobile phone and Rs 5,000 in cash from the possession of Rohit and Nikhil. They had taken the cash from the complainant and used the phone to seek extortion money from the latter.

The SHO said Krishna Gope was running an extortion racket from the jail. “We have come to know that Krishna Gope is demanding extortion money from inside the jail. We will be taking stern action to curb the menace,” he said.
