IMA Jamshedpur demands probe into Rajasthan doctor’s suicide

Doctors demand countrywide implementation of Medical Protection Act

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur doctors today condemned the alleged harassment of a lady doctor from Rajasthan on false grounds and demanded that an abetment to suicide case be registered against those who allegedly compelled her to commit suicide.

Recently, in Rajasthan, a female doctor, Dr. Archana Sharma, committed suicide by hanging herself. The incident has anguished the medical professionals countrywide.

IMA Jamshedpur held a press conference on Wednesday demanding registration of a case of homicide against the persons responsible for driving her to suicide.

On Wednesday, in a press conference, IMA Jamshedpur said that in Rajasthan, a female doctor, Archana Sharma, had assisted a pregnant woman in delivery. Both mother and child were healthy after delivery. But after two hours the woman started bleeding.

IMA said that on seeing this, the female doctor also treated her and tried her best to save her, but the woman did not survive.

The IMA officebearers said that after this unfortunate incident some persons manhandled the treating doctor and politicised the issue.

They said that after the incident, an FIR was lodged against the doctor at the local police station accusing her of homicide.

They said that soon after learning about the matter, Dr. Archana committed suicide and left behind a suicide note.

IMA Jamshedpur has demanded an investigation by registering a case of abetment to suicide against all the police officers and people involved in this case, while also demanding the implementation of Medical Protection Act across the country as soon as possible.

Dr. GC Majhi, Dr. Saurabh Chaudhary, Dr. Joy Bhaduri, Dr. Abhishek Mundu, Dr. Manoj Yadav, Dr. Debdoot Soren, Dr. Sunita, Dr. Gauri and Dr. BN Usha were present in this press conference.

According to the IMA, the local politicians and all the police officers and people involved in the case should be booked for abetting suicide.
