Tata Steel main gate blocked, demonstration held
Dulal Bhuiyan demands permanent jobs to 7,000 workers, Jharkhand Mazdoor Union holds dharna, plans to hold huge demonstration in Gopal Maidan next
Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Mazdoor Union has launched an agitation to press for regularisation of sanitation workers. JMM leader and the former minister Dulal Bhuiyan on Monday blocked the main gate of Tata Steel and sat on a dharna. Demanding quick regularisation of services of all sanitation workers, he submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chairperson of the company through the Managing Director of the company.
While submitting the memorandum to the company, Dulal Bhuiyan called the agitation a ‘do-or-die fight’ for the rights of sanitation workers.
Referring to the understandings reached earlier with the company, he said that regularisation is the workers’ rights. He said that around 7000 workers are waiting for regularisation of employment, while the company management is giving out contractors to outsider companies which employ workers from outside. He said that the local workers would never tolerate such irregularities.
It may be added here that Jharkhand Mazdoor Union has been agitating against Tata Group for last several days in a phased manner. On Monday, Jharkhand Mazdoor Union workers blocked the main gate of the company and demonstrated against the management. The Union plans to hold a huge demonstration at Gopal Maidan as next phase of the agitation.
Jharkhand Mazdoor Union says that the workers would also go to Mumbai and meet Ratan Tata if required, as the next part of the agitation.
Dulal Bhuiyan said that the agitation would be scaled up in a phased manner. The agitation would get more and more aggressive, till Tata Group regularises the services of 7,000 workers here.
