Five cyber criminals arrested in Jamtara, ED to take over probe

Ranchi: Jamtara police cracked down on cyber criminals by arresting five of them in a series of raids in the wee hours of Monday, sources said.

Jamtara SP Anshuman Kumar said those arrested had amassed huge wealth through cyber fraud. Two of them are father and son while two are brothers, he said.

Police raided Mohanpur village on the basis of a tip-off with the help of its technical cell. They busted a cache of mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM cards, bikes and a van.

Those arrested were identified as Hiralal Mandal (40), his son Chandan Mandal, Bhuvneshwar Mandal (40) and Niwas Mandal (29) and Kamlesh Mandal (25).

The SP said the accused persons had built luxurious houses in their village with the money earned through cyber fraud. He said a detailed report of the case would be sent to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for further action.

Kumar appealed to parents to take every possible step to prevent their wards from falling victim to phishing activities to chase their dreams of becoming rich overnight.
