Golmuri Resident Falls Victim to Cyber Fraud

Cybercriminals deceive Golmuri man, siphoning Rs 2.43 lakh from his account

Rakesh Kumar from Golmuri reports a loss of Rs 2.43 lakh to cyber fraud, prompting an FIR at Bistupur Cyber Police.

JAMSHEDPUR – Rakesh Kumar from Golmuri reports a loss of Rs 2.43 lakh to cyber fraud, prompting an FIR at Bistupur Cyber Police.

The fraudulent act was executed on April 2, following a deceptive call claiming to be from ICICI Bank regarding yearly credit card charges.

Rakesh was misled into believing he was assisting in a routine charge deduction, guided by the caller to a fraudulent link.

This link led to the unauthorized withdrawal of Rs 2.43 lakh from his account in three separate transactions.

Interestingly, the transactions were made without the usual OTP verification, involving sums of Rs 80,990, Rs 99,399, and Rs 62,889.

The incident, triggered by a call from mobile number 9905983106, underscores the sophistication of cybercriminal tactics.

Rakesh Kumar’s experience serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of cybercrime, leading to his immediate action of filing an FIR.
