Traditional Pigeon Racing Draws Crowds in Jamshedpur

Cash Prize of ₹50,000 Boosts Enthusiasm Among Participants

Key Points:

  • Over 30 participants join pigeon flying contest
  • Winner to receive ₹50,000 based on flight duration
  • Traditional sport continues despite modern technology

JAMSHEDPUR – A traditional pigeon flying competition in the city attracted participants competing for a ₹50,000 prize based on flight duration.

The event created excitement among pigeon enthusiasts across the city. Participants gathered early morning for the competition.

Moreover, the contest was organised by a local pigeon club. More than 30 participants brought trained pigeons.

Meanwhile, organisers released pigeons into the open sky. Flight duration determined the final rankings.

However, the rules remained strict and time-based. Pigeons flying till 7 pm would secure first place.

On the other hand, pigeons returning by 6 pm would rank second. Those returning by 5 pm would finish third.

Participants explained that pigeons undergo special training. They are conditioned to return even after long flights.

Moreover, caretakers provide nutritious diets to maintain endurance. The birds are fed grains, almonds, and other supplements.

In contrast, modern communication has replaced such practices today. However, pigeon flying traditions still remain alive.

The tradition dates back to royal times. Kings once used pigeons to send messages across regions.

Meanwhile, events like these preserve cultural heritage in Jamshedpur. The competition also promotes community participation.

Organisers stated that such events encourage younger generations. They aim to keep the tradition active in modern times.
