JAMSHEDPUR — The body of a patient who had gone missing from MGM Medical College Hospital nine days ago was discovered within the hospital premises on Monday evening, triggering a major row over the institution’s security arrangements.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Yadav, 54, a tempo driver from Bagbera Babakuti. He had been admitted to the hospital on March 13 after complaining of weakness.
On the night of March 14, Sunil disappeared from his hospital bed. His family searched the hospital and surrounding areas extensively. However, no trace of him could be found for nine days.
On Monday evening, a tea vendor spotted a body near the boundary wall. It was lying among garbage close to the postmortem house inside the MGM hospital complex. The vendor alerted the security staff immediately.
Family members rushed to the spot after being informed. They identified the body as that of Sunil Yadav.
The family has alleged that neither the hospital administration nor the security personnel took any concrete action for nine days. Moreover, CCTV footage reportedly showed Sunil walking toward the hospital’s main gate. Beyond that point, his whereabouts remained unknown.
A preliminary assumption is that Sunil may have walked toward the guard room area. He is believed to have collapsed there, with his body remaining undiscovered near the boundary wall. However, the family has termed the entire episode suspicious. They have demanded a fair and thorough inquiry.
After the discovery, angry family members raised an uproar inside the hospital compound. In addition, they accused the administration of gross negligence and demanded an impartial probe.
Police and hospital administration officials reached the scene. The body was subsequently sent for postmortem. Police have since launched a formal investigation into the matter.
