JAMSHEDPUR – Police seized approximately 26 kilograms of cannabis from the bus stand in the Sitaramdera police station area and arrested two individuals in connection with the case.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at the location. A large quantity of ganja was recovered from the possession of the two accused during the operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vishwajit Biswas and Md Tabij. Both are from Odisha. According to police, they were transporting the cannabis consignment from Odisha and were headed towards Bihar and Bengal.
The seized ganja has been valued at approximately Rs 3.30 lakh at market rate. It is among the larger ganja seizures reported recently in the Jamshedpur region.
Police are currently interrogating both the arrested accused. Investigators are trying to establish the exact source of the consignment in Odisha. They are also working to identify the intended recipients in Bihar and Bengal.
“The supply chain and those behind it are being probed thoroughly,” a police source said. Further action in the case is expected as the investigation progresses.
Drug trafficking through Jamshedpur has been a recurring problem, with the city frequently used as a transit point between Odisha and eastern states. In a similar earlier case, police had arrested a drug smuggler with 90 packets of brown sugar.
