SSP Acts After Probe Finds Illegal Release of Suspects Without FIR

JAMSHEDPUR – The senior superintendent of police suspended the Ulidih OP in-charge after an internal probe flagged serious lapses.
The action was taken by SSP Piyush Pandey. Moreover, the suspension followed allegations of negligence and misuse of authority. The matter involved cases linked to illegal narcotics.
According to official information, the SSP received inputs about suspicious releases. However, certain youths linked to drug trade were freed without action. No legal process was followed in those instances.
The inquiry responsibility was assigned to City SP Kumar Shivashish. Subsequently, the investigation examined police records and custody details.
The probe revealed that on December 10, around 8 pm, four youths were detained. They were brought with several packets of illegal ganja. The detention occurred under Ulidih OP jurisdiction.
However, two of them were released the same night. Aman Singh and Santosh Thakur were freed. No FIR was registered against them. Moreover, no senior officer was informed.
On the other hand, another incident surfaced during the probe. On December 11, a suspect named Sadhu Munda was detained. He was also linked to narcotics activity. However, he was released without case registration.
Investigators concluded that mandatory procedures were ignored. In addition, police rules were clearly violated. The report termed the conduct as serious dereliction of duty.
Based on the findings, Deepak Kumar Thakur was held responsible. He was accused of abusing his official position. Consequently, the SSP ordered his immediate suspension.
Meanwhile, Mohd Shariq Ali was appointed as the new Ulidih OP in-charge. He assumed responsibility following the suspension order.
Similar disciplinary actions were reported earlier. A police suspension case emerged at Gudabandha police station. Another incident involved officers suspended after a detainee escape.
In addition, an ASI suspension was reported earlier from Ulidih. A separate case detailed illegal recovery allegations. Another matter saw court action against a SHO.
