SEENI – A young man recovering from a road accident died Thursday after allegedly being administered an injection during a physiotherapy session in the Seeni OP area of Seraikela district.
The deceased was identified as Shyamal Majumdar, a resident of Seeni. He had been receiving treatment from a private physiotherapist, Prakash Prajapati.
According to family members, Majumdar had suffered serious injuries in a road accident in Ranchi on March 4. His condition had gradually improved following prolonged treatment, and he had since returned home.
He was undergoing regular sessions with the physiotherapist as part of his recovery. However, Majumdar complained of sudden, severe stomach pain during Thursday’s session.
The physiotherapist reportedly administered an injection immediately afterward. His condition deteriorated within moments of receiving it, and he died shortly after.
Family members alleged that the man treating him fled the scene afterward. He reportedly left behind his slippers, bag and other belongings at the spot.
Seeni OP police reached the location soon after being informed. They took possession of the body and sent it to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The victim’s father, Sukhdev Majumdar, alleged that medical negligence caused his son’s death. He demanded strict legal action against the person responsible.
He said the physiotherapist would not have fled the scene had he been innocent. Meanwhile, local residents have demanded effective action against unqualified medical practitioners operating in the district.
However, facts related to the person’s qualifications, legal permissions and authority to administer injections remain subject to police investigation. These details have not yet been officially confirmed.
Seeni OP in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh said the cause of death would become clear once the postmortem report arrives. He said further legal action would be based on those findings.
The wider region has periodically reported cases involving unqualified practitioners administering treatment without proper credentials.
