Mango Civic Body Lights Bonfires as Cold Intensifies
Six locations receive bonfires; expansion planned from tomorrow
Key Points:
- Mango civic body starts bonfires at major junctions
- Plan to expand the service across more local points
- Bonfires expected to help residents cope with rising cold
JAMSHEDPUR – Rising cold conditions have prompted the Mango civic administration to arrange bonfires at key public points to offer relief to residents and commuters.
Under instructions from Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, bonfires were lit at six locations. These included Mango Chowk, Dimna Chowk, Pardih, the area near Azadnagar police station, the spot near Hira Hotel, and the zone around MGM. Moreover, officials said the initiative would expand to more junctions from tomorrow based on field assessments.
The civic body believes that bonfires will reduce hardships for people moving through public spaces. Besides, officials stated that the arrangement will help prevent cold-related distress among pedestrians and those without adequate shelter. A source in the team said the effort aims to avoid any untoward incidents caused by severe cold.
Local representatives and several dignitaries were present during the lighting of the bonfires. In addition, staff members and civic workers assisted in placing and monitoring the fires at designated points. Meanwhile, the administration reviewed earlier cold-relief efforts such as protecting the homeless and other relief steps taken earlier in the season.
Further comparisons were drawn with recent street safety measures and broader winter precautions. The ongoing steps also align with earlier community-support efforts seen in similar winter responses across the region.
Such preparations hold significance for Jamshedpur as cold-wave conditions continue.
