BOKARO – Bokaro district administration organized an emergency mock drill at Bokaro Steel Plant today. The exercise followed a series of recent accidents at the facility.
The disaster management department coordinated with Bokaro Steel authorities. NDRF, SDRF, CIF, and plant health department teams participated. Moreover, they demonstrated excellent coordination during the simulated emergency.
The drill simulated a gas leak scenario inside plant premises. Response teams reached the site within one hour. Besides, affected workers received immediate medical attention promptly.
Three fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene. NDRF and SDRF teams brought the situation under control. However, the scenario assumed four workers lost their lives.
Several injured workers were shifted to Bokaro General Hospital for treatment. Health department teams provided emergency medical assistance. On the other hand, evacuation procedures followed established protocols.
Bokaro Steel Plant receives supplies of various gases regularly. The drill specifically addressed potential gas leak emergencies. Furthermore, multiple scenarios were tested during the exercise.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha attended the mock drill. He emphasized safety as a fundamental growth parameter. “Safety can become a measure of any plant’s progress,” Jha stated.
Plant operations require stringent safety measures, the DC explained. Growth prospects improve significantly with proper safety protocols. Besides, worker protection remains the primary administrative concern.
“Response speed after incidents matters most,” Jha noted. Bokaro Steel maintains good emergency response capabilities. However, several suggestions emerged from the drill observations.
NDRF teams are stationed far from Bokaro currently. Distance creates response time challenges during actual emergencies. Therefore, special preparation plans are being developed.
Training programs will prepare local teams adequately. Quick response capabilities will improve through specialized training. Moreover, equipment positioning strategies require optimization planning.
SP Harvinder Singh addressed the gathering separately. “We can only maintain preparedness,” he explained. Accidents occur unexpectedly without prior warnings.
