Chhath Tragedy Details
The drowning happened during Chhath Puja celebrations. Devotees were performing rituals at the river ghat. Strong currents likely caused the tragedy. Furthermore, the ghat witnessed heavy footfall during the festival.
Pathardih is a popular spot for Chhath observances. Hundreds of devotees gather there annually. The Swarnrekha river flows through Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Besides, it serves as a major bathing site.
Chhath Puja involves offering prayers to Sun God. Devotees take holy dips in rivers and ponds. The four-day festival holds immense religious significance. On the other hand, such water bodies pose drowning risks.
NDRF teams remain deployed across Jharkhand during Chhath. They assist in rescue and recovery operations. Meanwhile, local administration monitors vulnerable ghat locations closely.
