JAMSHEDPUR – Police carried out a major raid in Banta Nagar under RIT police station of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Acting on a tip-off, station in-charge Sanjeev Singh led the raid at a General Store near the water tank. Officers seized hookah equipment and narcotic substances of different flavors.
According to sources, the store operated as a front for ganja and drug trade. A large quantity of contraband was recovered. Police said the items were being supplied to high society youths and English-medium schoolchildren in Jamshedpur.
A week earlier, a few students of the area were allegedly caught consuming intoxicants. The incident was suppressed by the school management. However, police investigated further and exposed the racket.
The mastermind was identified as one local youth. He allegedly expanded from a small stall to a large showroom allegedly built on forest land. Police indicated that illegal income fueled this expansion.
After the operation, panic spread among other drug peddlers. Along with banned hookah substances, police also found iron weapons, fake pistols, large hookahs, and electronic nicotine-based cigarettes in the shop.
