JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Main Hospital (TMH) marked a milestone with its vascular surgery unit performing more than 500 surgeries in just 20 months since its launch.
The department started in January 2024, making TMH the first hospital in Jharkhand to introduce this specialty. Under the leadership of Dr Prashant Raman, the unit began from scratch and grew to serve patients who previously had to travel to Tier-1 cities for similar treatment.
The department now handles diverse procedures. These include peripheral vascular bypasses for trauma and limb ischemia, laser ablation for venous diseases, hemodialysis access for kidney failure patients, carotid artery surgery for stroke prevention, angioembolization for bleeding cases, and multiple endovascular interventions.
With these services, the outpatient department has expanded significantly. Monthly footfall has gone from small numbers to more than 250 patients. This reflects increasing confidence of the community in the hospital.
The hospital celebrated the achievement with senior Tata Steel medical leadership and experts in attendance. Those present included Dr Vinita Singh, General Manager Medical Services, Dr Ashok Sunder, CMIS, Dr Mamta Rath Dutta, CMMS, Dr Mrunal Panchal, HOD General Surgery, Dr Sanjay Nag, HOD Anaesthesiology, Dr Asif Ahmed, HOD Critical Care Medicine, and Dr Jeevesh Mallik, HOD Neurosurgery.
On this occasion, Dr Raman expressed gratitude to the management, OT staff, and colleagues. He said their support helped make the department a centre of excellence.
The milestone underlined TMH’s continuing effort to deliver advanced healthcare to the people of Jharkhand.
